BlackBerry Key2, the successor to last year’s KeyOne is set to launch on June 7. The Canadian company is planning to launch the smartphone at an event in New York where it will be officially announced. Ahead of its launch, the specifications of the smartphone have already appeared and now we have more information about the second-generation BlackBerry Key.

The BlackBerry Key2 bearing a model number BBE100-2 has appeared on Geekbench’s benchmarking platform, which sheds more light on key specifications and features of the smartphone. The BlackBerry Key2 seems to be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and could be launched in two variants: 4GB and 6GB RAM options. The smartphone managed to score 1,335 in Geekbench’s single-core test while its multi-core test returned a score of 4,948.

The BlackBerry Key2 is said to be codenamed Athena and its images and specifications have appeared multiple times in the rumor mill. BlackBerry’s OEM partner TCL is expected to launch a Lite variant of the smartphone as well.

BlackBerry Key2 Expected Specifications

BlackBerry Key2 is expected to sport a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels, which translates to a 3:2 aspect ratio. The smartphone will sport BlackBerry’s trademark physical QWERTY keyboard that also acts as navigation pad below the display. The Key2 will be powered by Snapdragon 660 chipset with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB internal storage.

The Key2 will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box along with BlackBerry’s DTEK security tool. The smartphone is expected to sport a combination of 12-megapixel and 8-megapixel image sensors at the back along with support for phase detection autofocus and 4K video recording. There will be an 8-megapixel selfie camera at the front which will support 1080p video recording.

The Key2, like the KeyOne, will feature a fingerprint sensor embedded within the spacebar of the physical keyboard. Each physical key on the keyboard is expected to support three types of shortcuts – single press, double press and long press – for achieving actions like opening apps. The smartphone will support 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It will also come packed with a 3,360mAh battery and support fast charging.
