In another promotional offer, BlackBerry has announced a heavy discount on its Q5 BB10 smartphone with QWERTY keypad. Naming it as the New Year Bonanza offer, the struggling company is now enticing customers by offering brand new BlackBerry Q5 smartphone for Rs 19,990, cutting down its price by 20 percent (Rs 5,000) from the launch price of Rs 24,990 in India.
Though the company is naming this as a special offer, earlier report had already suggested that BlackBerry would soon be cutting down the prices of its phones. The company had witnessed a heavy loss of $800 million in the last quarter alone, and thus has been trying to look for ways to sell the units of its phones. It had also cancelled the launch of two new phones due to the weak sales of other devices.
This is not the first time that BlackBerry has offered heavy discounts on its phones, and it had recently also cut down the price of the Q10 by 13 percent to Rs 38,990. Following the weak sales of its Z10 and Q10 phones, the company had earlier as well started buyback offers on the respective phones to clear out its inventory.
