BlackBerry Z3 launched in India, priced at Rs 15,990

As expected, the BlackBerry Z3 has been launched in India today. Priced at Rs 15,990, the Z3 is the first device to come out of BlackBerry’s 5-year deal with Foxconn to manufacture smartphones running on the BlackBerry 10 platform. It is also the most affordable all-touch BlackBerry smartphone the company has ever launched. The company announced that pre-booking for the Z3 will start today on the Mobile Store, Flipkart and BlackBerry exclusive stores, and the smartphone will eventually be avaiable from July 2.

In terms of specifications, we are looking at a 5-inch qHD (960×540 pixels) display with a pixel density of 220ppi. The BlackBerry Z3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor with Adreno 305 GPU, coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB of internal storage, of which only 4GB is available to users but there is a microSD card slot.

The BlackBerry Z3 comes with a 5-megapixel rear and 1.1-megapixel front-facing cameras. There is a massive 2,500mAh battery as well, which BlackBerry claims is good enough for 15 hours of talktime.

We think BlackBerry missed out a brilliant opportunity to come back in the smartphone game with the Z3. The Rs 15,990 pricing is slightly disappointing as we were expecting BlackBerry to come out with all guns blazing, especially after selling the Z10 briskly after its price was slashed to Rs 17,990. Anyway, the Rs 15,990 is the MRP and we are hoping that the BlackBerry Z3 will retail for lower once it is available in the market.

The price is disappointing. People will re-think on buying it.

    • Kenneth

I would say..u gotta rethink about the quality of the hardware and seamless performance of the OS…You should not compare this with other crap available in the market.

  • Nitish

    i am agree with nikhil….

  • Parthiv Shah

Superb phone though and the OS10.2.1 is extremely fluid. I wont mind paying this premium for this new productive OS and 2500 mAMP battery with super fast charging capacity.

Bb must have sold very well in Indonesia so the price was increased. This price point may provide nicer margins if it sells well but considering how previous, overpriced handsets failed, bb should have kept lower price and been able to show line ups and pent up demand…I hope this won’t be another z10 fiasco.

    • charlie2010

The price is higher because the rupee is tanking, the indonesian phone was subsidized by the carrier and there are fewer taxes. Blackberry and foxconn do not make money of lower rupee value and higher taxes.

    • Kenneth

See the quality BB offering in this cell feels premium on hand…unlike all other in this category…BB doesnt want to compromise with the quality..
and its a good think…putting some more bucks for this phone is not a bad deal…

  • Raushan

    • Kenneth

  • Kenneth

this cell phone is best in this price i guess…you are getting super hardware + you are able to download all android apps those were missing before…which was the major issue that BB was having for poor sales…now its time to switch to BB…using MOTO x…ordered BB Z3… excited to get it on my hand :)
