While much of the limelight has been on the strange looking BlackBerry Passport, it is not the only smartphone in the works. A roadmap leaked by N4BB reveals launch time frames for some of the smartphones that are on the way later this year.
BlackBerry is set to launch smartphones across various segments it has codenamed Prestige, Innovative, Classic and Affordable. Starting with the Prestige segment, the company will launch the BlackBerry Porsche Design ‘9983, which is targeted towards the rich and affluent. Codenamed “Khan”, this forthcoming smartphone features a 3.5-inch display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a QWERTY keyboard. The smartphone will be priced upwards of $2,000 and will be launched sometime towards the end of September.
Right around the same time, BlackBerry will also launch the much rumored Passport. The smartphone with a boxy design and a physical keypad which also recognizes gestures, will be the company’s flagship device this year. Part of the Innovative segment, the smartphone features a 4.5inch (1440×1440 pixels) display, 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded further by 64GB. Also included will be a 13-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and connectivity options like USB support, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0 LE.
Also mentioned are some of the smartphones that have been launched including the BlackBerry 9720, and the BlackBerry Z3, which was launched in India earlier this year for Rs 15,990. As for software, BlackBerry will release BB10.3 sometime in the third quarter of this year, followed by BB10.3.1 sometime in the fourth quarter.
