Piss poor analysis. If you just wanted to say Apple is better just go ahead and report it.

I am not sure what is wrong in the article from bloomberg. what they want to convey is that because Apple didn't care about a solid and potential market like India, they are losing/lost to cos like RIM and Nokia, which is 100% true. I see a lot of BB in the top end of the market and Nokia in the bottom end. Since, Apple doesn't care to cater to people here in this country by setting up sales channel/marketing division etc like Nokia or Samsung had done, they lost out. This is what I understood from the article. If BMW comes out with a corporate edition of 3 series and x1 series etc which actually brings more business to BMW, it doesn't mean that BMW lost its status symbol...in my humble opinion... for that matter iphone 3gs is selling for 19k or so...and a proper/current iphone model around 20k should be possible with some subsidies/contract etc like what is happening in US/Singapore etc.

Personally I feel the Bloomberg story is 'fixed'. The figures have been shown in such a way as to show Apple in poor light and other brands as 'saviour' of India.

Ketaki has been fed readymade information that she has happily digested without doing any research. What's more surprising is that how in the hell did her editor allow this?

If Bloomberg wants to show that it is credible, then come out with an analysis in the Rs. 30K+ segment and inform us poor mortals if Apple is losing to RIM-Nokia. But she will never get the figures bec they pale in comparison to iPhones.

Who is this Harish Bijoor character? If he's a branding marketing guru how come my friends and I have not heard of him. It's easy for him to talk. Lets see his work and what he has delivered.

It's incorrect on the part of Ketaki (journalist) to say that Steve Dowling declined to comment. Does she have proof he declined or did he chose not to respond to her queries? Hence she should have written that her queries to Steve Dowling went unanswered. Or that she received no response to her queries.

Last but not the least. The MD of Croma is a total nincompoop. Apple not for masses but classes?

Aw, poor BGR has their knickers in a knot because someone actually reported some not-so-good news about BGR's parent company, Apple?

@AJ,

Yup, the two articles are making orthogonal points, but BGR is trying a little too hard to 'refute' the Bloomberg article.

What an awful rebuttal.

None of the numbers mentioned in the Bloomgberg article are reversed. Could it be because they're all true?

The article was only about smartphones, which come in all sizes, shapes and prices. It might make sense for some purposes to compare ONLY the smartphones in the same price range, but for the intent of the article it was a perfectly valid approach. Everything stated there was backed by numbers and not hand-waving.

FWIW, my home has an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 and I like the products, but let's not get carried away when the facts don't suit our desired world-view.

No, Bloomberg's analysis is not flawed and neither is yours, you two are discussing two distinct points.

-- The fact remains that their are less no of iPhones sold in India (so Apple is loosing it out) - Bloomberg?
-- Their are less no of iPhones sold in India because the model in India is very different from western world where a $400 device is subsidized by carrier not so in India. (You)

Apple made the conscious decision to delegate the decision of mass cosumerizing (or not) its iPhone on carriers while RIM and Nokia decided to do it themselves.

Agree.

Read the Bloomberg article earlier in the evening and was surprised by such flawed analysis and loosely structured article.

For starters, Bloomberg should consider talking to Indian analysts for a story on Indian markets...

Good one rajat. Very well put up. Reputed websites like bloomberg should check the credibility of the facts they put up. This article in reference was surely full of crap!
