Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Infocomm has tied up with brother Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications (RCom) to share the latter’s 120,000 km optic fiber network across the country to provide backhaul for its upcoming 4G network. Under the agreement Reliance Jio Infocomm will pay RCom Rs 1,200 crore as a one-time indefisible right to use RCom’s nationwide optic fiber infrastructure.
According to the agreement, RCom will in turn have reciprocal access to optic fiber infrastructure to be built by Reliance Jio Infoccomm in the future. The agreement also has joint working agreements that will be put into place immediately to upgrade the existing optic fiber infrastructure to deliver next generation services.
The statement also mentions that this is the first in “an intended comprehensive framework of business cooperation” between the two companies. Reliance Jio Infocomm is the only player in the market to have a pan-India BWA spectrum license and is expected to soft-launch its 4G LTE services in India later this year.
