Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, the state-owned telecom operator, has been fiercely challenging the likes of Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel with new tariff plans. While it has concentrated mostly in the prepaid segment in the past, BSNL is now making big push into the postpaid segment with its new data plans.
The telco has announced that it will be offering unlimited data with its postpaid and data add-on plans starting July 1. The state-owned telecom player is not making major changes to its postpaid plans, but is instead offering an after FUP speed of 40kbps. It will also be offering the same after FUP speed of 40kbps with all of its postpaid data add-on plans as well.
“The Data with all Postpaid mobile plans to be converted to unlimited with speed reduced to 40 Kbps after present free data limit,” the operator said in an official statement.
BSNL’s postpaid plans start from Rs 99, and go all the way up to Rs 1,525. All the plans will now offer unlimited data with speed reduced to 40kbps when you exhaust the allotted data. The Rs 99 postpaid plan offers 500MB data per month, but its best plans are the ones priced at Rs 399, Rs 799, Rs 1,125 and the Rs 1,525.
With Rs 399 postpaid plan, BSNL offers 30GB of data every month and post the 30GB data, the operator will not charge users. Instead, it will only reduce the speed to 40kbps. With Rs 1,525 plan, you get unlimited data without any FUP limit and the new change is not applicable here. The data add-on plans from BSNL start from Rs 5 and are priced all the way up to Rs 1,711.

The base Rs 50 plan gives 0.55GB data while the Rs 666 add-on pack offers 11GB data in addition to existing data with your main postpaid plan. All the data add-on packs are throttled down to 40kbps after FUP limit, TelecomTalk reports. These plans from BSNL seem competitive against offerings from Reliance Jio and Vodafone.
