Activision has finally put the rumors to rest. Yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is an official game, and will be launched on October 12, 2018.

Earlier this year, an Eurogamer report set off the rumor mills about a possible fourth addition to the Black Ops series of the Call of Duty game franchise. The report claimed that Activision will release Black Ops 4 before this year runs out. Activision has now confirmed via a tweet that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be releasing on October 12, and will be revealed to the world on May 17 in a community reveal event.

The blog post also mentions that the game is being developed by Treyarch, which has developed all the three previous instalments in the series. The game will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

It makes sense for Activision to look into another Black Ops game because Black Ops 3, launched back in 2015, is still selling strong. That and the continuous updates have made Black Ops 3 one of the most successful games for Activision.

According to Eurogamer, the Black Ops series spans from the Cold War in the the past to 2065 in the future. And overwhelmingly negative response for Infinite Warfare being set in space, has prompted Treyarch to tone down the Sci-Fi elements in the game. Game journalist Marcus Sellars, claimed on Twitter earlier this week that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be set in modern times, and would be coming to Nintendo Switch as well.

This could be exciting news for Nintendo users because the last Call of Duty game to come to a Nintendo console was Call of Duty: Ghosts back in 2013. That said, this piece of news is not confirmed yet, so we would advice you to take it with the proverbial pinch of salt.
