Datawind to launch Rs 5,000 10-inch tablets with voice calling in June

DataWind, the maker of Aakash tablets, is planning to launch a set of 10-inch tablets priced for approximately Rs 5,000 in June. The company has recently be reported to be experimenting with LTE enabled phablet as well.

“We would be launching 10-inch devices in the budget category for customers to be able to own these devices for the same price they now pay for a 7-inch device by most of other brands. These devices would be introduced in the Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,500 category and some of these tablets will also feature voice-calling capabilities. We plan to make an announcement on these products after six weeks from now,” Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO, DataWind told BGR India.

Tuli believes that it is the data, software and related features, as well as apps that will the key driver in future. And for that it is important to launch products at a price feasible to the masses and not just a particular set of people. By launching these devices at an affordable price, Datawind will enable a wide set of users to access the Internet.

Moreover, Tuli also revealed that they are working on free-Internet mobile devices to let the Indian users access internet without having to pay for data.

Datawind has launched its own app store with the Ubislate 7C+ and they would be featuring these app store in their further models as well. With these app stores DataWind plans to create another channel to generate revenues through app developers.
