Everything you wanted to know about the new iPad

The new iPad will go on sale in India starting tomorrow. Apple enthusiasts who had followed the new iPad launch event might know each and every detail about the third gen iPad but we think there’s still a major chunk of people left who are yet to be introduced with the new iPad. No matter how similar it may look to the the iPad 2 but the new iPad certainly celebrates a bunch of changes and new specs. New iPad with Retina display: As Apple describes it, the Retina display has such high pixel density that human eyes would not be able to distinguish between individual pixels. The new iPad features a 9.7-inch display with 2048 x 1536 resolution that is double the display resolution on the iPad 2 (1,024 x 768) which basically means that things would appear more clear, sharper and crispier.

A faster quad core A5X processor with quad-core GPU: The new iPad is based on Apple’s new A5X processor which is claimed to be twice as faster than the A5 chip on which the iPad 2 is based. Many tech journalists around the world also believe that this processor has 4 times the graphics rendering power than a Tegra 3 processor which is normally found on most Android tablets.

Upgraded 5.0MP camera: The new iPad houses a 5.0MP iSight camera at the back which should be able to shoot HD videos in 1080p. This new camera is definitely a big upgrade considering the iPad 2 has a disappointing 0.7MP camera which couldn’t do much justice to the pictures and videos.

It has 4G support but is there any use of it: With Airtel launching its 4G networks in a few Indian cities, you guys must be thinking that your Apple 4G tablet will work in India. However, this might not be the case since the technology supported by Apple, as described by us in an earlier post, works only with LTE networks in the US and Canada. The iPad 4G supports only 700MHz and 2100MHz bands for LTE while Indian 4G LTE networks will run on the 2300 MHz band. However, the iPad 4G is backwards compatible, which means it will run on our current 3G networks just like the iPad 2.

No Siri support: The virtual personal assistant – Siri, which can listen to all your commands was introduced on the iPhone 4S last year after which many were hoping the third generation iPad will also feature it. But only to our dismay, the new iPad didn’t get it, damn it! But heck, we can look out for that feature maybe on the iPad 4 or whatever it might be called.

Upgraded specs won’t eat out the battery: Though with a faster quad core processor, Retina display and 4G support, the device would still be able to provide you the same battery life as it offered on the previous model. The battery on this new model is 70 percent larger in capacity as compared to the iPad 2 and is clocked at 42.5 watt hour (11,666 mAh) up from 25 watt hour (6,930 mAh).
