As Apple prepares to launch the iPhone 6 in India on October 17, it has slashed the prices of the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C, BGR India has learnt. The 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5S variants now have a MRP of Rs 44,500 and Rs 49,500 respectively. The 8GB iPhone 5C, on the other hand, sees its price drop to Rs 31,500.
The 16GB iPhone 5S was launched in India last year for Rs 53,500 and with an Rs 9,000 drop now has a MRP of Rs 44,500. The 32GB variant of the iPhone 5S, on the other hand, sees a Rs 13,000 drop, and will now have an MRP of Rs 49,500, down from Rs 62,500.
It is not clear at the moment if Apple plans on introducing a buyback scheme for the iPhone 5S. But judging by the past, Apple could introduce a minimum of Rs 8,000 buyback offer on both the variants, which effectively brings the prices of both the smartphones down to Rs 36,500 and Rs 41,500 respectively. In comparison, the iPhone 5S is already retailing for Rs 38,000 on a few Indian e-commerce sites, but that isn’t the official price.
The iPhone 5C too sees a drop in price, especially the 8GB variant. Earlier this year, Apple launched this variant of the iPhone 5C in India for Rs 37,500. The device has got Rs 6,000 slash, and will now have an MRP of Rs 31,500. Along with launching the 8GB variant in India, Apple had also announced its buyback scheme, wherein you could actually buy the phone for as low as Rs 29,500. By applying an expected buyback offer on the slashed price, the 8GB iPhone 5C would now be available for as low as Rs 23,500. The device is already available for Rs 25,000 on a few Indian e-commerce sites, which as you would expect is not an official price. Apple is expected to eventually only sell the 8GB iPhone 5C globally, but we expect the 16GB variant to be available in India till stocks last.
Apple has already announced that it would launch the new iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus in India on October 17. Yesterday, the new iPhones were up for preorders in select countries ahead of launch on September 19.
