It is that time of the year again when we start ringing up our sources to find what Apple’s planning for launching the iPhone in India. And boy, do we have some juicy details today! According to a source who has always been spot on regarding the iPhone’s India launch in the past, Apple will change the way it retails the iPhone in India. Rather than relying on carriers alone, this year Apple will launch the iPhone in the open market as well. This means the iPhone will be available to buy across retail stores and not just a few retailers apart from Airtel and Aircel stores. Read on for more…

At the moment Apple hasn’t asked any Indian carrier to place orders for Nano SIM cards. Our sources tell us the lead period between placing orders and getting Nano SIM cards is eight weeks. This means the iPhone 5 is unlikely to be available in October here. We are told that Apple is planning to launch the iPhone 5 in India close to Diwali, which falls on November 13. None of our sources could confirm the actual India launch date at this time.

Considering Apple releases its products in the market on a Friday, we would reckon the best chance would be to launch it on November 9 that happens to be the Friday before Diwali. Mind you, we cannot confirm the launch date just yet and this is just our calculation.

Not true! You can cut the Mini SIM/Micro SIM into Nano SIM through scissor cutting (recommended only for experts in cutting :D) or Nano SIM cutters and SIM will still work. :)

Lets see if you are actually telling the truth this time since the last time you reported that Apple was going to sell refurbished iPhone 4 that never came out made people angry.

Nothing new in this. The iPhone 4s & Before that, the 4 were also available in the open market in addition to being available with the carriers mentioned.

The phones were earlier imported and distributed by the two carriers. That will change.

So it means cheaper iPhone. Right? These carriers are one of the reasons of apple’s premium pricing in india.
