Facebook just declared war on gaming platform Twitch with its own gaming video hub called Fb.gg. Unsurprisingly, users streaming games like Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Dota 2, Counter Strike Global Offensive on Facebook are quite popular and now Facebook has seen a new potential market for it and wants to make the most of it.
And now Facebook wants to make things easier and more lucrative for game streamers by incentivizing them with better discovery and a more prominent placement. The game hub landing page will feature the streamers that the user follows and the stream from the preferred games, or a selection of featured creators from the community. The landing page will be used to discovery new streams as well as keep a track of the ones that the user already likes.
Facebook had already introduced a gaming creator program, which is Facebook’s version of Twitch Partner Program. Facebook is attempting to lure away streamers from Twitch and Youtube Gaming by offering a tipping style financial solution.
Facebook is looking to find more users to use its own platform in favor of Twitch and YouTube for both live and recorded videos. But the primary target would definitely be the younger audience of the live streams, especially for games like Fortnite. This is because advertisers value younger audience apart from the fact that a live audience is always preferable because of the fact that the advertisers know that everyone is watching the same content at the same time.
Right now, Fortnite seems to have the most number of streams on FB.gg, where almost 3,000 people are streaming to a crowd of 210,000 people which is not too far from the numbers on Twitch.

It remains to be seen how this will work out for Facebook, but it is certain that the chances of it succeeding is high because there is no dearth of users on Facebook, and gaming pages have been a big draw among people.
