Facebook partners with ‘Saavn’ with India in mind for global social music service
Facebook in its quest to crack the social music code is partnering with Indian start-up ‘Saavn’. Facebook hopes that with Saavn’s large repository of local music it will enrich its Indian audience with a global social music service, which will provide equitable local content.
Facebook sees India as a high growth market and it hopes ‘Saavn’ with enable exactly that. According to a report by TechCrunch, it appears Saavn is already having a significant impact. Ever since its launch as an Facebook Timeline app four weeks ago, its user base has increased by 40 fold with user base increasing from a lowly 35,000 to 785,000.
With its comprehensive library of India centric audio content Saavn has been hailed as a Spotify meets Pandora app. While most of its features are free, it does have a premium element, which enables offline access. Facebook’s bet on Saavn will surely increase the profile of the start-up and at the same time it will enable the millions of India Facebookers easy access to local music.
