Social media giant Facebook is looking to expand the user base and connections on Messenger. And to that end it has launched a new feature where Messenger will pull contacts from the Instagram account of users. This will happen only in the case where the user has opted to connect the account. This option appears on the ‘People’ tab which is beside the option to sync the contacts on the user’s phone.
Jane Manchun Wong was the first person to notice this and she posted about it on Twitter with a screenshot. This feature has been noticed by people outside the US as well. And people are reporting that they have found feature already enabled on their own apps and TechCrunch has confirmed with Facebook that there has been a full public launch.

Users can connect their Instagram accounts to Messenger by tapping ‘Connect Instagram’. This will prompt Messenger to sync the contacts from Instagram automatically and also display the Instagram username and account of the user for other contacts to see.
But this feature has not gone down well with all the users and many are of the opinion that they ought to be asked before connecting all contacts from Instagram to Messenger. Many people took to Twitter to express their concerns that they did not know that connecting Instagram will prompt all contacts to be added as well.

To be fair, there is no indication from Messenger that when users connect to Instagram, the contacts will be added to the platform as well.
