Ahead of the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, Flipkart has started teasing the two flagship smartphones on its website. With the tagline ‘9onFlipkart’, the e-commerce site has a microsite dedicated to the unveiling of the duo, which will be announced on February 25. It is worth mentioning that it will be a global unveiling at MWC 2018, and the Flipkart’s teaser page ahead of the launch is likely an indicator of an India launch being right around the corner.
On its teaser page, Flipkart lists the biggest highlight of the Galaxy S9 series being the ‘reimagined camera’. For this year, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are said to be equipped with powerful cameras. The Galaxy S9+, in particular, will be the company’s first smartphone in its series to pack a dual-camera setup.
While much has been already revealed through leaks and design renders, Samsung will be officially unveiling the Galaxy S9 duo on February 25 at 6PM CET (10:30PM IST). The event will also be live-streamed on the YouTube, and other social media channels. It is likely that Flipkart will also broadcast the live stream through the teaser page.
As for specifications, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are not going for a major design overhaul. With finer tweaks including narrower bezels, and a repositioned fingerprint sensor, the Galaxy S9 duo will retain the same design language as their predecessor. Both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core SoC in the US and Europe, whereas in India and Asia Pacific regions will be getting the Exynos 9810 octa-core SoC variants with AI integration. The chipset will be paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage in the Galaxy S9, and 6GB of RAM with 128GB/256GB storage on the Galaxy S9+.
The camera will be the highlight of the smartphones. The Galaxy S9 will be equipped with a single camera setup at the back, while the Galaxy S9+ will sport dual cameras at the back. The talking point of the cameras has been the variable aperture. It is likely the camera will come with an aperture which will be capable of adjusting from f/1.5 to f/2.4 based on lighting conditions. This will essentially enhance low-light shots, while balancing the color in bright-lit environments. As for the dual-camera setup, the Galaxy S9+ is said to be equipped with two 12-megapixel sensors – a wide-angle lens with the variable aperture, and other a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. For selfies and video calling, there will be an 8-megapixel front camera with f/1.7 aperture.
Other features include Apple iPhone X-like Animoji feature, IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, iris scanner and facial recognition, stereo speakers, and Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
As for pricing, the Galaxy S9 could retail around 950,000-999,000 Won in Korea, which translates to Rs 56,500-59,000 in India. After customs and import duties, the Galaxy S9 could sell above Rs 60,000. Galaxy S9+, on the other hand, is likely to sell close to Rs 70,000 after import duties and taxes. Samsung is expected to start accepting pre-orders from the day of launch, while shipping is expected to start from March 8, 2018.
