After announcing the world’s slimmest smartphone at MWC in Barcelona, Gionee has today launched the Elife S5.5 smartphone in India as well. The phone does not only come with a ridiculously thin frame, which measures merely 5.5mm, but also boasts an array of specifications including an octa-core chipset that makes it an interesting offering in mid-range segment and put it up against other smartphone offering from local players in the same league. The phone is launched for Rs 22,999 in India and will be available starting April. We take a look at its specifications:
Gionee’s Elife S5.5 has an all-metal body with a rectangular Aluminum Magnesium alloy frame, chamfered edges, and a flat back design which gives it a premium look and feel. The most interesting as well as unique part of its design is that this is the slimmest smartphone in the world with its thickness trimmed to 5.5mm only. Measuring at 145.1 x 70.2 x 5.55mm in dimension and weighing merely 130grams, the phone feels good to hold in hand as well.
The phone dons a 5-inch full HD display with 1080p resolution, cramming in 441ppi. On its top comes the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which protects the display from scratches and other damages.
Power is plenty in the phone with 1.7GHz MediaTek 6592 true octa-core chipset ticking at its heart to ensure a smooth performance. The processor is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which cannot be expanded further.
In terms of photography, the Elife S5.5 adorns a 13-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and flash light, and for the selfie enthusiasts it has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 95 degree wide angle sensor. Along with these, Gionee has added a number of other features like Charm Camera, and professional and normal setting options. There also are plenty of editing features, which are a part of the company’s Amigo UI topping the software. The primary camera on the phone is also capable of recording full HD videos at 1080p at 30fps.
Gionee has used its own Amigo UI skinned on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software which changes its interface to a great extent. In addition to that, it brings a number of new features to offer a better user-experience.
The phone comes with all the standard connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G network support. It houses a 2,300mAh non-removable battery, which would ensure a run time for up to 27 hours on one full charge.
