Google seems to be persistent in its pursuit where users can look at Chrome OS as a real alternative for Windows, macOS and even iOS if they want to. As part of its efforts, the company has finally added support for Android app shortcuts on Chrome OS with the help of a right click. This means that you can access the app shortcuts on Android apps by right-clicking on the app icons. This comes almost two years after the company added app shortcuts to Android apps with Android Nougat 7.1.1 and Android app support to Chrome OS.

This new feature will make it easier for users to quickly access important functions of the app without launching it making the behavior more consistent with how most users use desktop or laptop operating system. This information was revealed by Francois Beaufort, a member of the Chrome team through a post on Google Plus. He pointed out that this feature is only available in the developer version of Google Chrome OS but this means that the feature will soon make its way to most users. However, even if you are on the Developer Channel for Chrome OS, you can’t use this new feature directly.

Beaufort added that users will need to enable the “enable-touchable-app-context-menu” experimental flag in the system settings. Users also need to ensure that the Android app needs to be pinned on the shelf or inside the app launcher.

We are not sure how many apps support Android shortcuts on Chrome OS or if users can directly pin the internal app links on the dock. This comes right after it was revealed that the Material Design 2 overhaul for Google Chrome was available for users in the Canary release channel of the web browser.
