Google is set to launch Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the successors to company’s acclaimed Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones in October. While the upcoming smartphones have already leaked in the form of renders, the key features and specifications of the device remains unknown. However, one of the rumored feature is addition of wireless charging to these two devices.
Google app has revealed that the next-generation Pixel smartphones might support wireless charging with the help of a Pixel-branded accessory known as the “Pixel Stand.” The same app had detailed work on a category of wireless chargers refered to by the codename “dreamliner” in June. The features were spotted on the app during the Android P Developer Preview and the new leak suggests that Pixel Stand will also include some Google Assistant features.
Like the Now Playing and Active Edge services, which were spotted during Android O developer preview, the beta version of Android P has shed more light on codename dreamliner. Google might be working on an ecosystem of peripherals including wireless charging dock that might show the charge status on the Pixel’s At a Glance widget as well as on the lockscreen and always-on display. According to 9to5Google, Google might also allow its OEM partners to build devices as part of dreamliner ecosystem.
Now, Google app with version number 8.14 has revealed the Pixel Stand, which could be the first accessory being launched as part of dreamliner ecosystem of accessories. It will integrate Google Assistant and when users grant trust to a specific Pixel Stand, Assistant will be able to answer queries with personal information. The app data shows it will be capable of answer information like calendar events even when the phone is locked. The code buried within the app also includes “personalized help” which refer to suggestions and actions based on response.

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL leaks so far indicate that Google will switch to glass back that will be support wireless charging. The leaks related to “dreamliner” and consumers are not likely to be interested in a physical dock, Google might see Assistant as a value addition and wireless charging now only seems more likely. Ahead of the launch, the Pixel 3 XL has also appeared in the form of Clearly White model.
The leaked image shared by XDA Junior Member dr.guru shows the notched display design and placement of front-facing camera and sensors. The leaks further suggest that the back is made of glass with the top part being glossy and the bottom being matte. At the fall event in October, Google is expected to launch Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, an updated Pixel Buds, a new Pixelbook and a Pixel-branded smartwatch, which is unlikely but possible.
