Google to unveil its 3D Maps service on June 6
Google has sent out press invites to our colleagues at BGR Classic for an event for its Mapping service to be held in San Francisco on June 6. The event will be hosted by Brian McClendon, vice president of Google Maps and Google Earth, who will give a “behind-the-scenes” look at the “next dimension” of the company’s Map service, implying a new 3D Maps service.
Interestingly, this comes five days before Apple unveils iOS 6 at WWDC, where the Cupertino based company is slated to dump Google’s Mapping service for its own new 3D mapping platform. Google clearly wants a leg up on Apple in terms of Maps and it is clearly going an extra mile for this considering Google already has its main developer event scheduled for June 27.
