HCL launches a slew of Android tablets in India starting at Rs 6,999
HCL is really pushing hard in the low-cost Android tablet space. Today, it has launched three new tablets – the ME U2, ME V1 and the ME Y3, which cost Rs 6,999, Rs 7,999 and Rs 11,999 respectively.
Starting with the ME U2, the device features a 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor, a 7-inch WVGA display, a Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, 4GB of internal memory, microSD card slot. a VGA front camera, a 3,000 mAh battery and Google Play support. The tablet runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It will come for Rs 6,999.
The ME V1 is the mid-range model, it runs on a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, a 7-inch display with a WVGA resolution, a VGA front camera, a 2-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of internal memory, microSD card slot, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, 3G support via a dongle, voice calling capabilities, and a 3,200 mAh battery. This too runs on Android 4.0, but instead drops support for the Google Play store and only has support for the HCL ME App store. It will be available for Rs 7,999.
The last tablet, the ME Y3 is a unique product as it flaunts dual-SIM capabilities and also has a built-in FM transmitter. From a core specification stand point; it is pretty similar to its cousins. It features a 1GHz Cortex A9 CPU, a 7-inch WSVGA panel, a VGA front camera and a 3.2-megapixel rear camera. Additionally, it has 4GB of internal memory, with microSD card support and has 1GB of DDR3 RAM. Notably, it also supports HSUPA networks and does not depend on an USB dongle for 3G connectivity. Like the ME V1, it also runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich minus Google Play support and only has the HCL ME App store for apps. It will be available for Rs 11,999.
