As per media invites that HMD Global sent out last week, the company will be holding a launch event today in New Delhi, which will be held 11.30AM onwards. While the company hasn’t officially revealed what to expect from the event, considering the devices it showcased at MWC 2018, we are highly anticipating an India launch of the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco, and Nokia 8110 4G. HMD Global too promised at MWC that it will be launching all its new smartphones in India in April.
You can also be a part of the launch event, by joining the live stream, which will start at 11.30AM today. To join the live you can head to Nokia India’s official Facebook page.
Earlier last month, at Mobile World Congress, HMD Global unveiled the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco smartphones, both of which have a great focus on the camera experience. The two feature dual camera setup at the rear, supported by Zeiss optics. Both of them have a combination of 12-megapixel and a 13-megapixel sensor, with 2x optical zoom and electronic image stabilization. But what’s stands them apart is the front camera, the Nokia 7 Plus has a 16-megapixel sensor on the front, while Nokia 8 Sirocco has a 5-megapixel one.
As for specifications, the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco have little difference. While the Nokia 7 Plus features a 6-inch Full HD+ display with bezels, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, Nokia 8 Sirocco has a smaller 5.5-inch Quad HD display with thinner bezels but old school 16:9 aspect ratio. It offers 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform.
Besides the two, the company should also launch the Nokia 6 (2018) today. Like the name makes it pretty clear, the smartphone is an improvement over last year’s Nokia 6, and comes with a faster processor, that is Snapdragon 630 SoC. It has an option between 3GB and 4GB of RAM, and 32GB and 64GB of storage, respectively. For photography, it has a 16-megapixel primary sensor, and an 8-megapixel secondary one.
Finally, we are also hoping today we see Nokia 8110 4G make its way to the Indian market. This one’s another take by the company on the “Nokia nostalgia”. The Nokia 8110 4G retains the slider design and the curved body from the original, but is sans the antenna. Of course, since its launched in 2018, it now comes with ‘intuitive tactile mechanics, with slide to answer and end calls, as well as an addictive helicopter style spin on its axis’.
Under the hood, it runs Qualcomm’s 205 Mobile Platform. It comes pre-loaded with special versions of Google Assistant, Google Search, Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter, Outlook and Gmail. It also comes with a revamped version of Snake.
