Huawei shocked a lot of Honor 8 users when its Indian subsidiary revealed that the company will not release EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo for the smartphone. Now the Chinese smartphone maker has revealed that it will instead bring some of the core features available as part of Oreo update.

Huawei has been updating a lot of its own Huawei-branded smartphones, but the company has not spoken much about the update for its Honor devices. Now the Chinese smartphone maker has revealed a list of all the phones that will get Oreo update. To much surprise, the Honor 8 is also mentioned in that list despite the fact that Honor India confirmed that the smartphone won’t get Oreo udpate.

Honor is trying to clear the air around Oreo update for Honor 8, and has confirmed that the smartphone will get latest user experience with the port of EMUI 8.0 features to the smartphone. “To ensure Honor 8 users also benefit from the latest user experience upgrades, new functions of EMUI 8.0 will be ported to the Honor 8. Further update details will be released within one week. Please stay tuned and we thank you for your support and interest in Honor,” the company told Android Police.

Honor is still not being clear about its plan but it seems like the company will release some of the features available as part of EMUI 8.0 for Honor 8 but the smartphone will remain on Android Nougat as base operating system. Honor 8 has been out for just around 18 months and it seems strange that the company is dropping the phone from its update cycle so early.

Among Chinese smartphone makers, Huawei and its e-brand Honor have a better record in terms of software rollout compared to other OEMs. The company has launched multiple smartphones including some budget ones like Honor 9 Lite with Android Oreo out-of-the-box.

As far as update is concerned, Honor plans to release EMUI 8.0 based on Oreo for Honor 7X, Honor 9, Honor 9 Youth Edition, Honor Note 8, Honor V8, Honor V9, Honor V10, Honor 8 and Honor 8 Yout Edition. The company has not shared timeline any specific timeline, but it is worth noting that Honor View10 is already running EMUI 8.0 in the global market. We will have to wait until next week to have official clarity from the company.
