Honor, Huawei’s e-brand is planning to launch two new smartphones on June 6. At an event in Beijing, the Chinese smartphone maker is expected to introduce the new Honor Play series smartphones with AI capabilities. Alongside the Honor Play smartphone, Honor is also expected to introduce a new variant of Honor 9i smartphone that will embrace the notched display design seen on more premium smartphones.
The teaser for the two smartphones shared by the company on Weibo reveal that the launch event is scheduled for 2.30PM local time (at 12PM IST). Two Honor smartphones with model numbers LLD-AL30 and LLD-AL20 were certified by TENAA, China’s telecom authority today. Now details of the launch have emerged online which confirms that one of the device will be Honor 9i. The new Honor 9i is expected to share the same specifications as the one found on Huawei P20 Lite.
The new Honor 9i with model number LLD-AL30 is expected to feature a 5.84-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is expected to be powered by Huawei’s own octa-core Kirin 659 chipset clocked at 2.36GHz coupled with Mali T830-MP2 GPU. It will likely come with 4GB of RAM and option for either 32GB or 64GB or 128GB internal storage and support expandable storage.
The new Honor 9i, likely to be called Honor 9i (2018), might feature a dual rear camera setup with 13-megapixel main camera with LED flash and a secondary 2-megapixel camera. It is also expected to feature a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. Interestingly, the front camera, microphone and other sensors will be hidden within the notch, bringing the design seen on premium smartphones down to the entry and mid-range segment.
The TENAA listing reveals that new Honor 9i will feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and will measure 149.2 × 71.8 × 7.7mm in dimensions. It is is likely to weigh around 152 grams and support WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and 4G VoLTE. It will be supported by a standard 3,000mAh battery and arrive in black, blue and grey colors.

Huawei embraced notched display design with the launch of its flagship P-series smartphones, which includes Huawei P20, P20 Pro and P20 Lite. Honor brought the design down to premium mid-range segment with the launch of Honor 10 smartphone early this month. With the launch of Honor 9i, the design will become a common place among smartphones in all price segment.
