In a bid to rival Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, homegrown streaming service, Hotstar has axed the price of its annual subscription plan. The new plan costs Rs 1,200 for one-year of subscription. However, if you look at the effective per month pricing, it comes down to Rs 100/month, which means you save nearly 50 percent on the yearly package as Hotstar’s standard monthly plan costs Rs 199.

If you want to sign up for the new Hotstar plan, you can head to hotstar.com or install the Hotstar app. You can use Paytm account or debit or credit cards to make the payment for the yearly subscription. As part of the subscription, you get access to high-quality, ad-free content that includes American shows, Hollywood/Bollywood movies, live sports, and Indian TV shows.

In comparison, Amazon Prime Video offers a cheaper yearly subscription which is priced at Rs 999, while Netflix charges the most with plans starting at Rs 500 per month. The key difference between these services is the kind of content they offer.

As Gadgets 360 reports, Hotstar’s latest price cut is not the cheapest yearly subscription it has offered in the past. In August, the same Rs 1,200/year was announced as part of a special offer. A separate nine-month plan was on offer at Rs 999. Hotstar dropped the yearly plan to Rs 696 in October last year.

The current plans on Hotstar start at Rs 199/month. If you are a new subscriber, you will get first-month free access to all the content. This plan can be canceled anytime as the billing is on a per month basis. You can choose to buy the same plan each month as per requirement. Here there will be no recurring charges. For three months, the plan is available at a reduced price of Rs 498. It is non-refundable and offers no free trial. You can save Rs 300 if you go for the Rs 894 plan, which is valid for six months. Sadly, there is no free trial on this plan as well.
