Samsung’s 2017 flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ duo, come with the dual-edge curved Infinity Display, IRIS scanner for biometric authentication, one of the best smartphone cameras, and more. Samsung also introduced its AI-based voice assistant, Bixby as one of the key highlights of the smartphones. Samsung recently started rolling out Bixby Voice capabilities across 200 countries, but sadly, India is missing from the list. The company has announced that the India roll-out will begin by end of September. But if you can’t wait till then, here’s a trick to get Bixby Voice in India on your Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones right now.

There are two tricks to get Bixby Voice functionality. First is an unofficial method, where you will have to root your smartphone and install a custom ROM. While the process is tricky, you will also end up losing your warranty and KNOX security. The other is a neat trick with which you simply need to change the region (CSC – country specific code) and that’s about it. The process will format all the data on your smartphone, so ensure that you take a backup of your contacts, messages, photos, music and videos before proceeding. The trick was posted by YouTube user TechiBee. To begin with, note down the IMEI number of your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ by dialing *#06#. Now, go to the dialer and type *#272*IMEI#. For instance, if your IMEI number is 1234512345, you will need to dial *#272*1234512345#

If you’ve done it correctly, a new screen will open up with a list of CSCs. Sales code for India is INS, which will be already selected, and you can see it on the top too. Next, you need to scroll down to look for Vietnam (XXV). Simply select that, click on install, followed by selecting ‘Full Customization’ on the pop-up window. At this point, your Galaxy S8 / Galaxy S8+ will automatically reboot to recovery, wipe data and reboot. Next, you’ll have to go ahead with the setup, like configuring your Google Account, installing and updating apps. Once all of that is done, press the Bixby button on the left, just below the volume rocker. You will have to go through the setup, which involves updating Bixby related apps, signing in with Samsung account (if you don’t have one, then sign up). In the little time that I used Bixby, I’m left impressed. Bixby is more than capable of doing even smallest of things that Google Assistant, Cortana or Siri cannot do. These include things like increasing or decreasing the brightness, changing the aspect ratio or video resolution in the camera app, updating your Facebook status, posting the last photo, or sending photos on WhatsApp, all with voice commands. I’ll soon come up with an in-depth feature story on how to use Bixby Voice commands, what all it can do, and more. So, stay tuned for that. And if you have followed the procedure to get Bixby Voice on your Galaxy S8 duo in India, do let us know how you’re finding it in the comments section below.
