How to jailbreak iPhone 5 running iOS 6 using the Evasi0n jailbreak
The biggest user-interface change Apple heralded with the iPhone 5 was the addition of one extra column owning to the taller display of the new iPhone. Apart from that one can argue that iOS has remained its tepid self for the best part of five years in the running. But then again Apple has a penchant for such consistent UI designs, OS X is testament to that. But in the world of innovative UI designs iOS falls behind the likes of Android and Windows Phone. The Evasi0n jailbreak by the Evad3rs team has been designed for people who want to break out of the monotony of iOS. It opens up a world of unending tweaks, allowing the end user to customize his iOS 6 or iOS 6.1 device (including the iPhone 5) to hearts content, just like an Android user would do so. This means one can add widgets, change icons, add swipe gestures, add animation, custom keyboards and etc. Many users will be apprehensive about applying this jailbreak, but we can assure you it’s quite a painless process and is nothing like rooting an Android smartphone. Read on to find out more.
Step 1: One needs to download the jailbreak, which can be done so from here. It’s available for Mac, PC and Linux; so all bases are covered. Next up, one needs to install the jailbreak on the computer and connect ones iPhone or iOS 6 device with the PC/Mac.
Step 2: Tap on the jailbreak button on you computer and let the app do its own magic. Once completed it will create a Jailbreak icon on your iOS springboard and one just need to tap that. After this your device will go through a series of reboot.
Step 3: Once all this is done then you will notice the Cydia app store from where one can apply a number of modifications or download apps Apple had rejected on its App store.
One very cool app is GrooveShark it’s free and it’s a music streaming service that was rejected because a number of music labels in the US sued the company. Another tweak worth checking out is Auxo that adds an impressive card like multitasking interface. This tweak will cost $1.99. And if you want Android like widgets then we suggest Dashboard X. If you feel Siri, is useless then you can install NowNow that will make the Google Search app the default voice search app.
It’s worth noting right now the EvasiOn servers are overloaded with traffic as more than 2,70,000 people have downloaded the Jailbreak. Even the Cydia store is acting erratically, so you may not be able to download all the tweaks instantly. This will improve once the traffic subsides.
