HP launches gaming portfolio in India; range includes Omen X desktop, laptop, VR headset and more

HP's new Gaming Portfolio is targeted at the professional gamers this year

HP Omen X Notebook

HP has come up with a new selection of desktops and notebooks for gamers under its Omen banner. The portfolio consists of a new Omen X desktop, notebook, peripherals and a Windows Mixed Reality Headset which seamlessly connects with a VR Backpack.

“Our portfolio from last year was targeted at casual gamers, but this time around we are looking to reach out to out professional gaming crowd with products that offer uncompromising performance,” said Vickram Bedi, Senior Director, Personal Systems, HP Inc India.

HP Omen X Compact Desktop

The HP Omen X Compact Desktop comes as a slim pack that has harnesses which essentially make it a backpack. The device is thin, flat, and has the color theme of the Omen series. It comes with four battery packs two of which need to be used at once for it to work. This comes with a VR Headset and two controllers.

Onto the specs, it uses a factory-overclocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and supports 4K resolutions and comes with Intel 7th gen Core i5 or unlocked Core i7 CPU options. It supports at home overclocking capabilities as well.

The device comes with a seperate dock which makes it a gaming desktop when not working with the VR headset.

It comes with Omen Command Center that reduces latency by controlling network traffic, so gaming traffic is routed over the Ethernet connection while background updates or downloads run on the Wi-Fi connection. It supports 360 surround sound as well.

The batteries on the Omen X Compact Desktop are hot-swappable, which essentially means that they can be switched without having to shut-down the system.

HP Omen X Notebook

HP’s latest addition to the gaming laptop race in India is the Omen X that will be priced at Rs 2,10,990 and be available to buy from March 20.

The laptop follows the Omen design and has a mechanical and RGB LED-per key backlit keyboard, with 2.5 mm travel. It has RGB LED per key for customizable key maps; independent, programmable macro keys; and, N-Key rollover on every key for anti-ghosting functions.

It sports a 17 inch Full HD display and comes in 120 and 144 frames per second options. All the models have Nvidia’s own G-Sync technology.

DTS Headphone: X technology is used for simulated surround sound with any headset along with HP Dual Speakers with Audio by Bang & Olufsen.

HP has made the Omen X notebook customizable to quite an extent by offering capabilities to change the look and feel as well as the specs of the device. It has a single panel over the HDD, SSDs, and RAM to ease access to end-user replaceable components.

The notebook offers ports to support upto four displays. To be more specific, it has three USB 3.0 Type A, two Thunderbolt 3-certified USB 3.1 TypeC, HDMI 2.0a with HDR support, Mini DisplayPort, RJ45 and a multi-format media card reader. It even has dual audio jack with separate microphone input and headset jacks (input/output).

When it comes to specs it runs on Intel 7th gen unlocked Core i7 CPU options, XMP memory options for memory overclocking with tested profiles up to DDR4 2800 Mhz. For graphics it has factory-overclocked options up to NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 that support 4K resolution.

In terms of storage it has RAID0 SSD option for ultra-fast boot and game loading, PCIe SSD+HDD storage options, or standalone 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD option.

Thermal management is done using high-performance fans and an integrated vapor chamber with four 3.5 mm heat pipes improve heat transfer from the GPU and CPU to the four-rear corner-mounted radiators.

HP Omen X Desktop

The Omen X desktop has to be one of the most eye catching models out there and it offers some impressive specs to boot. The Omen X Desktop offers an Intel Core i9 processor, which is the best out there right now. It has options for dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and up to dual AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPUs. Both the CPU and GPU can be overclocked by the user.

The key to this peculiar design of the Omen X Desktop is the tri-chamber design that compartmentalizes the heating issue making it easier to handle. It has support for up to three 120mm fans. The empty chasis of the Omen X can be bought as well.

HP Windows MR Headset and peripherals

The HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset will have options for twin 1440 x 1440 resolution displays, with a double-padded headset and an easy adjustment knob. It is priced at Rs 51,187.

The Omen Keyboard 1100 has mechanical keyboard switches and N-key rollover for anti-ghosting capabilities. It is priced at Rs 9,999.

HP’s Omen Mouse 600 comes with customizable weight features and mechanical switches with up to 50 million clicks and is priced at Rs, 4,999. The Omen Mouse Pad costs Rs 2,199.

The Omen Headset 800 features thicker ear cups, boosted overall acoustic performance for clear high, low, and mid-tones, and a specifically tuned audio profile for clear speech. It costs Rs 6,999.
