HTC One (M8) Google Play Edition launched in India for Rs 49,900 [Update: It is not happening]

Update: HTC has clarified that the One (M8) Google Play Edition is not coming to India, and it was in fact incorrectly mentioned in the Indian launch press release. HTC says that it actually meant to reveal the global availability of the device and the announcement was not specific to India.

In addition to launching the One (M8), HTC also announced that the Google Play Edition of the flagship device will be available in India. It is similarly priced at Rs 49,900 and is up for pre-orders starting today. It will be available for purchase in a few weeks on the Google Play Store. As mentioned in our previous post, this would be the first Google Play Edition smartphone to be available in India.

To recap, it features a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card, 4-UltraPixel primary camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 2,600mAh battery. Connectivity options include, 4G-LTE support, 3G, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS.
