HTC will reportedly announce Google’s acquisition of its smartphone business tomorrow

HTC will halt its share trading tomorrow in the wake of a major announcement.

Reports around Google possibly buying HTC’s mobile division have been circulating for quite some time. Google would be purchasing only the mobile division of HTC, and the two companies have reportedly entered the final stage of negotiation. An official deal is expected by the end of the year. While both the companies haven’t made any official announcements, we could be hearing one from HTC on Thursday.

HTC is hosting a town hall meeting tomorrow where it is expected to make major announcements. In addition to multiple reports citing the announcement, leakster Evan Blass also tweeted about seeing the event invite. The major announcement is highly expected to be about Google acquiring HTC’s mobile division. In addition, Bloomberg’s Tim Culpan’s tweeted that HTC would halt its company’s share trading tomorrow.

The decision comes in light of a major announcement HTC will make tomorrow. With all reports pointing in the same direction, it seems very likely that an official statement about the Google acquisition will indeed be made tomorrow.

HTC’s smartphone business hasn’t shown progress for the company and the company has been looking out for an acquisition, according to a Bloomberg report. HTC as a company wouldn’t be up for sale, and the company is said to still keep its Vive VR headset business. If the reports turn out to be correct then tomorrow’s announcement will make things clear on where HTC’s smartphone line stands with Google. Google’s acquisition of HTC’s mobile business is expected to work well for both the companies considering their business history. HTC has been a prime manufacturer of Google’s Pixel and Nexus smartphones. Google is expected to unveil its next generation Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones on October 4. Of the two, HTC is manufacturing the Pixel 2 smartphone. The Pixel 2 series are also said to feature HTC’s ‘EdgeSense’ technology which essentially makes the smartphone squeezable from the sides.
