Huawei executive flaunts 6.1-inch 1080p phablet, CES launch impeding
A Huawei executive flaunted a 6.1-inch 1080p phablet in China even before the company announced the device. The incident was captured live by a number of people and images were posted on Chinese micro-blogging site Sina Weibo and then it was reported by Engadget. The device is rumored to be the Ascend Mate and it will feature Huawei’s new K3V3 quad-core chip that will have a clock speed of 1.8GHz and it is expected to have a CES unveil.
Additionally, the executive told on-lookers that the device was using a low-temperature polysilicon display with a pixel density of 361 and a 4,000 mAh battery.
No other details were revealed but, we can surely testify that 2013 will be the year that 1080p mobile displays will go mainstream. We already have the HTC Butterfly and the Sony Yuga is also expected to have a 1080p panel, alongside the Samsung Galaxy S IV. That said, the 6.1-inch display size is rather odd because that’s much bigger than the 5.5-inch mark seen on the Samsung Galaxy Note II, which makes it closer to a full-fledged tablet than a hybrid.
It’s utility will remain up in the air, till the product is out in the market. Remember, critics even questioned the original Galaxy Note, but that turned out to be a blockbuster success, so who knows Huawei may be onto something.
