At IFA 2018, scheduled for the end of this month in Berlin, Chinese company Huawei is expected to showcase its latest SoC capabilities with the Kirin 980. It also plans to announce the launch date for the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro devices, which would feature the Kirin 980 processor.

Recently, Huawei has been working with TSMC to build the Kirin 980 processor. During a closed-door event, Richard Yu (CEO of Huawei) revealed that the Kirin 980 will be the first chip made using the 7-nm fabrication process. This will be the first 7nm SoC to launch in the market. With this feat, Huawei will gain an edge over Qualcomm and Samsung by timing their launch ahead of them. Among the highlight of the chip will be better energy efficiency.
