Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro top features: From OLED display to AI-based Kirin 970 chipset

The Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro have been launched with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-loaded.

Huawei Mate 10 top features

Huawei launched its latest flagship smartphones, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro yesterday in Germany. The Mate 10 is priced at 699 Euros (approximately Rs 53,400), while the Mate 10 Pro will retail at 799 Euros (approximately Rs 61,000). Both the smartphones will be available for purchase from the beginning of November in Australia, China, Egypt, Malaysia, Mexico, among others. Huawei hasn’t announced availability details for India.

Among the last to unveil flagship smartphones this year, Huawei’s Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro come loaded with powerful specifications and features. Not surprisingly, they are poised to go up against Apple’s iPhone 8 series, and even the new Google Pixel 2 smartphones. Here’s a look at what makes the smartphones stand out.

Display, Design

The Mate 10 features a 5.9-inch 2K LCD Quad HD display with 16:9 aspect ratio. The Mate 10, on the other hand, flaunts a bigger 6-inch OLED display with full HD display, and 18:9 aspect ratio. In terms of usability, the Mate 10 has 81.6 percent screen-to-body ratio, while the Mate 10 Pro offers 81.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. Both the smartphones are sandwiched in a 3D glass, and metal body in four colors of blue, black, Mocha Gold and Pink Gold. Chipset, RAM and Storage

Prior to its launch Huawei had confirmed that the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will be powered by a Kirin 970 SoC. Debuting on these two smartphones, Kirin 970 SoC boasts AI capabilities. The chipset comprises of four Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz, and four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It further comes with Mali G72 12-core GPU for graphics.

Huawei says that the Kirin 970 chipset makes its flagship devices up to 20 percent faster than the iPhone 8 Plus and the Galaxy Note 8. In terms of memory, the Mate 10 packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Cameras

As seen in Huawei‘s flagship smartphones, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro also come with Leica engineered cameras. At the rear, the smartphones sport a dual-camera setup, which is a combination of 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor of f/1.6 aperture. The dual cameras are equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and 4-in-1 hybrid focus.

Up front, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro house a single camera with unknown megapixel count. However, the front camera features an AI-based Intelligent Photography for selfies and zoom. Samsung Dex-like PC mode

Huawei also enabled a PC mode for the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. You can sync the smartphones to a larger screen, which will also allow you to use them as a touch pad. While on PC mode, if your smartphones receive a call then it’ll appear only on the device, and not on the connected platform. Android 8.0 Oreo

Google’s Pixel 2 series are among the first flagship smartphones to launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will soon join them as the smartphones also run Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphones will also receive Google’s Neural Network API by early next year. In addition to Android 8.0 Oreo, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will have EMUI 8.0 skin on top which is also said to be AI-based.

IP67 rating

Only the Mate 10 Pro is protected with IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. The Mate 10 Pro is fully protected by dust, and can be submerged in water up to 3.3 feet for a duration of 30 minutes.
