Serial leakster Evan Blass has revealed images of 2018 edition of Huawei‘s new Y series smartphones. Blass leaked the images through his Twitter handle, giving a glimpse into the Huawei Y3, Y5 Prime, and Y6 smartphones. The company is yet to officially announce the Y3 and Y5 Prime, while the Y6 had been announced earlier this month.
Based on the leaked images, the Huawei Y3 will feature an entry-level design. It appears to feature a metal finish design, albeit what might actually be a plastic body. The bezels are prominent and there’s no fingerprint sensor on the device. The power and volume buttons are on the right side. At the back, a standard single camera sensor is visible, alongside what appears to be a speaker grille. There are no physical Android controllers, which means the device will use the screen space for navigation.
Coming to the Huawei Y5 Prime, the 2018 edition appears to follow an enhanced design language as compared to the Y3. A horizontal module for camera is located at the back. While it appears like a dual-camera system, it is actually not. It holds a single sensor along with an LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is missing on this model as well. The physical buttons are on the right. Overall, it appears to have a metal body design.
Lastly, the Huawei Y6, as per the images, will have thinner side bezels and a slimmer profile than the other two models. The rear camera module is placed horizontally, again giving the illusion of a dual-camera system. The sensor in the image appears to read 13-megapixel. Again, there’s no sign of a fingerprint sensor on this model as well.
While it is acceptable for the entry-level model from the trio to not come with a fingerprint sensor, it will be disappointing to see the other two not featuring it. It is also likely that instead of the traditional sensor, they might allow for face recognition for authentication.
Earlier this year, the Huawei Y3 (2018) cleared FCC certification. The features revealed through the certification include microSD card slot and single SIM support. The smartphone had been previously leaked on Geekbench as well. Based on that, it can come powered by the MediaTek MT6737 SoC paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The display resolution is expected to be 480×854 pixels. Further, it is expected to draw its power from a 2,200mAh battery and run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

This month, Huawei announced the Huawei Y6 (2018) without revealing the pricing and availability. It is equipped with a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440×720 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is layered with 2.5D curved glass for double the protection. Under the hood, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC is paired with 2GB of RAM. There is also 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.
For optics, Huawei Y6 (2018) includes a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Up front, there’s a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling. Even as the camera system is conventional, it comes with a dedicated LED flash for the front camera. Keeping things ticking is a 3,000mAh battery. On the software front, it runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box with EMUI 8.0 layered atop.
