InFocus, the American smartphone maker backed by Foxconn, has announced its new Vision series in India. InFocus Vision 3, the first smartphone in the series, has been launched at Rs 6,999 and is now officially the cheapest smartphone to feature an 18:9 display.

The smartphone features a 5.7-inch display with a HD+ resolution of 1440×720 pixels, translating to a taller 18:9 aspect ratio. The bezels surrounding the display are considerably thinner, but the smartphone can’t quite be called bezel-less.

The InFocus Vision 3 is powered by quad-core MediaTek MT6735 chipset coupled with 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage. There is also support for expandable storage via hybrid SIM slot. InFocus confirms that it’s future phones will offer dedicated SD card slot like competitors.

On the camera front, the Vision 3 features dual rear cameras with 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The secondary sensor is used to capture depth and brings features like portrait mode where users can capture pictures with shallow depth of field. The rear camera shoots in 4:3 by default, but the camera software has options to shoot 2:1 pictures, albeit at a lower resolution.

InFocus is also copying Nokia’s Bothie mode here with its own version called DualFie, which captures a picture with both the cameras simultaneously in the form of PIP mode. The Vision 3 users can also choose between wide-angle or normal angle while shooting pictures. It also offers an 8-megapixel selfie camera with beautification mode and portrait mode that does bokeh without a dedicated sensor.

With Vision 3, InFocus is also introducing its own custom ROM called SmileUX based on Android 7.0 Nougat. While InFocus is not promising when it will release Android 8.0 Oreo update, the brighter picture is that the phone comes with November security update. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, GPS and dual-SIM connectivity.

The InFocus Vision 3 is backed by a 4,000mAh battery, which the company claims can last for two full days. The smartphone is priced at Rs 6,999, and will go on its first sale tomorrow at 12:00PM exclusively on Amazon India.
