Good evening! It’s Thursday, and a lot of you may already be looking for Friday, and the coming weekend. But before we head there, a lot of things happened today. Instagram now has 1 billion users globally, and the photo sharing platform has also launched IGTV for live-streaming long videos. The European Union (EU), on the other hand, has voted for the controversial “copyright law” that will most likely destroy the internet. Live photos of Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro have surfaced, Mi Pad 4 teaser hints at some of its key features, and more. Here’s a look at the top stories of the day.

Instagram launches IGTV

Over the past two years, Instagram has managed to double its customer base. The Facebook-owned company has revealed that it now has 1 billion users worldwide. It is the fourth app from the social media giant, after Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger to reach the milestone. The company has also launched IGTV, a long format video app to take on YouTube. The IGTV app will be rolling out across the globe in coming weeks for Android and iOS.

EU votes for copyright law

After passing GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) which gives European citizens the right to control their personal information that is shared with the companies, the European Union (EU) has now has voted for the controversial ‘copyright law’ that will completely destroy the internet that we know.

The Article 11 introduces a “link tax” that will require internet companies such as Google and Microsoft to get permission from publishers for using snippets of their work. The other, Article 13, will force the internet companies to “ban memes,” and will require all websites to check posts with database of copyrighted work.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro, Mi Pad 4 teased

Xiaomi is all set to unveil the Redmi 6 Pro smartphone and the Mi Pad 4 tablet on June 25 in China. Ahead of the launch, a lot of details have already surfaced, and now, Xiaomi has teased the smartphone showing off the color options it will be offered in. The company has also teased the Mi Pad 4, which will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and will feature an 8-inch display.

Apple releases iOS 12 Beta 2

Apple has started rolling out the iOS 12 Beta 2 update for developers which brings minor tweaks and design changes. Notable changes include the battery stats page, Siri suggestions toggle in Notifications section, auto fill passwords from iCloud Keychain and more. Apple also launched the beta 2 version of tvOS 12, macOS 10.14 and watchOS, all of which are now available to download.

Moto One Power first live images surface

Motorola is reportedly working on a new One Power that will run on Android One program. First live images of the smartphone have surfaced, showing off the design in full glory. It features an edge to edge display with a notch on top, metal back, and dual rear cameras. There is no word on the launch date, but with the leaks pouring in, the unveiling event may not be far off.
