After announcing its Xeon D-2100 SoC processor, Intel is now reportedly working on its next-gen processor which is said to suit the needs of graphics-heavy processes. The upcoming processor is expected to be called ‘Ice Lake’ and will use the 10nm+ silicon fabrication process.
A prototype of ‘Ice Lake’ SoC was benchmarked and listed on SiSoftware ranking website. Based on the listing, the upcoming CPUs will pack two times more powerful integrated graphics. Ice Lake is likely to come with UHD Graphics Gen11 LP integrated processors. This has 48 execution units that result in 384 SPs, 6GB of shared system memory, and 768kB of L2 cache, FossBytes reports.
In comparison, the Intel UHD 620 features 24 EUs and 192 shaders. Additionally, the reference clock on the upcoming processor is 600 MHz, which is double that of the UHD 620. However, the boost clock is not known. Given the use of the 10nm+ fabrication process, Intel has been able to manage a boost in the clock speed as it aims to enlarge its iGPU. The Ice Lake processor will succeed the current Gen 9.5 architecture implemented on ‘Coffee Lake’ and ‘Kaby Lake’.
Meanwhile, the recently launched Xeon D-2100 processor addressed the needs of edge applications and data center or network applications. The new SoC extends the performance of Intel Xeon Scalable platform used in the data center to the network edge and web tier. The SoC will particularly address the needs of network operators and cloud service providers who constantly face the need to continuously grow their performance and capacity without increasing power consumption.
Last week, Intel also introduced a new set of drivers which promise automatic performance management of games. The latest set of drivers is available for Windows. It introduces a new feature with the ability to automatically configure the game settings for Intel Graphics on 6th Gen Core CPUs or higher. The new feature is expected to arrive on newer machines with 8th Gen Core CPUs with Radeon RX Vega M cards as well.
