It looks like Apple is taking a page from Samsung in more ways than one. According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple not only plans to release iPhones with larger screens but it plans to release two such models: a 4.5-inch model and a 5-inch model. Apple has been slower than other manufacturers to release a smartphone with a display of five inches or greater, it looks like the company has finally decided to stop ignoring the ever-growing “phablet” trend.
In addition to reporting about the new iPhone 6, the Journal reports that Apple has decided to scrap the colorful plastic casing that it introduced with the iPhone 5C. Instead, the Journal says that both new iPhones released this fall will have the aluminum casing used by the iPhone 5S. Many reports have indicated that the iPhone 5C has been a disappointment in terms of sales so it looks like Apple is taking a different route when it comes to releasing a cheaper version of its flagship smartphone.
The Journal’s sources say that the 4.5-inch iPhone 6 model is closer to being finished than the 5-inch model. The sources also caution that Apple’s plans haven’t yet been finalized and that things could still change.
