Itel Mobile, which is owned by China-based Transsion Holdings, is set to introduce a new series of smartphones which will be priced in the affordable category. According to industry sources, the smartphone series will be priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000.
It is expected that there will be as many as five smartphones in Itel’s series. The highlight of the smartphones from this series is said to be the 18:9 full-screen displays. It is unclear as to which models the company will introduce, however, it is likely the launch will take place sometime in mid-March.
According to the sources, one of the smartphones from the series, S42, is likely to pack a 5.5-inch screen and provide 180-degree wide-angle viewing experience.
It is expected the smartphone will be equipped with a dual-camera setup. This could possibly make the Itel S42 one of the affordable smartphones to offer both a dual-camera setup and an edge-to-edge display.
As for other specifications, it is likely the S42 will run Android Oreo out-of-the-box, and come powered by a 3,000mAh battery. A rear fingerprint sensor is also expected on the rear panel of the smartphone.
Last month, the company claimed a whopping 217 percent growth in the Indian market in 2016-2017. The company holds a total market share of 9 percent in the smartphone market here. Itel attributed the success to its “dynamic expansion strategy that is focused on meeting existing market requirements through relevant solutions.”
The latest report from CyberMedia Research (CMR) highlighted Itel Mobile as one of the few mobile brands observed to have a strong upwards trajectory in 2017 despite market fluctuations.
