Lava launches ETAB Connect tablet, sports a 7-inch display, voice calling feature, and a 1GHz Qualcomm processor

Lava has announced the ETAB Connect tablet, which comes with voice calling capabilities and support for 3G network. Earlier today, we reported on Micromax’s Funbook Talk P360 which also features calling capabilities, however is restricted to 2G network only. The ETAB is available for Rs 9,499.

The tablet features a 7-inch multi-touch capacitive screen with 800×480 pixels. The 9.9mm thick tablet weighs merely 350g. It runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm processor with 512MB RAM, and has a 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD. The tablet also features a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera which can also be used for video calling with third party applications over 3G network. This apart there is a microUSB port and a 3.5mm audio jack port given in the device. There also is a 3000mAh battery.

The Lava ETAB Connect is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, while the Micromax Funbook Talk P360 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Also, just like Funbook, Connect also comes with pre-bundled educational content and apps like Merit Nation, EduKart amongst others. The tablet also features BIGFLIX, Hungama, Uahoy, Diamond Comics and ReadWhere. Lava claims to provide value added content worth Rs 15,000 on the tablet. Lava has partnered with content providers to offer content on discounted prices. For instance, it offers a discount of Rs 4,000 on meritnation.com packages, offers content worth Rs 2,000 for free from Hungama.com, and in another case, allow users to access unlimited movie streaming from BigFlix at Rs 1 for the first month.

At this price point, the tablet will be competing with the likes of Micromax Funbook Talk P360 launched for Rs 7,049 and Pantel T-Pad WS702C launched for Rs 7,499 and offering similar features.
