Google’s Android Oreo (Go edition) has been in the news as more manufacturers join the brigade to offer low-end smartphones which run the newest, but optimized version of the popular OS. Domestic smartphone maker Lava has announced its Lava Z50 smartphone, which will run the customized OS. The Lava Z50 will be available starting at over 100,000 retail stores by mid-March 2018 in black and gold color options.
Introduced in India in December last year, Android Go has been designed to run on smartphones with low-end specs. The OS comes with optimized set of apps which can be supported on entry-level smartphones. In addition to redesigned apps, the OS offers a whole suite of Google apps which are, again, restructured to work well with affordable phones. BGR India has learnt that the smartphone will be priced somewhere around Rs 5,000.
Lava Z50 specifications, features
The Lava Z50 features a 4.5-inch display with 2.5D Curved Corning Gorilla Glass. Under the hood, MediaTek MT6737m quad-core SoC clocked at 1.1GHz is paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
As the company says, the smartphone comes with enhanced available storage space of 5.5GB, against the 3GB which is typically on offer on low storage phones. This is possible due to the reduced size of built-in apps, which aids in up to 50 percent faster performance compared to other smartphones in the same price category.
For photography, there’s a 5-megapixel camera at the front and back. Both are supported with flash. The camera comes with Bokeh Mode, which allows users to enjoy DSLR-like shots even with the low-end phone.
The smartphone is pre-loaded with optimized Google apps, like YouTube Go, which lets you download, watch and share videos while controlling your data. It further comes with support for search in 10 major Indian languages including Hindi. It also allows you to search for images, weather, and also translate from search home screen.
Lava Z50 comes with a two-year warranty, along with a special one-time screen replacement offer if the screen breaks within one year from the date of purchase. When launched, it will be bundled with Airtel’s Rs 2,000 cashback offer as part of the operator’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative.
