The Lenovo Vibe Z, announced in India last month, was today listed online on Lenovo’s India website. Priced at Rs 34,999, buyers will most likely compare it to the Vibe X, which too is well equipped and about Rs 10,000 cheaper. Let’s take a look at what the Vibe Z offers for the extra buck.

  1. Display – Both the devices flaunt full HD displays and though the Vibe Z features a bigger display (5.5-inch) compared to the Vibe X (5-inch), on pixel count the latter is way ahead. Where the Vibe Z’s 5.5-inch display has a pixel density of 401ppi, the Vibe X has 441 pixels-per-inch in its 5-inch display.
  2. Hardware – While both have enough power to run apps and multimedia smoothly, the  Vibe Z is ahead of the Vibe X in terms of processing chops. Where the former is powered by a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core Soc, the latter features a 1.5GHz MediaTek 6589T quad-core SoC. Both the processors are paired with the same 2GB RAM.
  3. Camera – Both the devices have the same set of cameras — 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera — so there is little to differentiate in this department.
  4. Storage and Battery – On the storage front, it’s a tie since both only offer 16GB internally with no option to expand it using a microSD card. As far as the battery is concerned, the Vibe Z has a bigger unit (3,000mAh) compared to the Vibe X (2,000mAh).
  5. Android OS – Both the smartphones run on Android Jelly Bean, so there is little to differentiate between the two.
  6. Connectivity – This is one department which sees the biggest difference. The Vibe Z offers 4G LTE support, something that the Vibe X doesn’t.

As far as the specifications are concerned the Vibe Z edges ahead with a powerful battery and processing chops. The support for 4G LTE too is a big advantage. But if you working on a tight budget and are not necessarily on the lookout for 4G support, the Vibe X makes for a perfectly good choice. At Rs 10,000 less, it can easily keep up with the Vibe Z and in fact has a better display with more pixel density.
