Lenovo Z5 is now official and disappointingly, it does not turn out to be as promising as it was in teasers. After teasing the renders and specifications for almost a month, Lenovo has made its Z5 smartphone official in China. At an event held in Beijing, Lenovo announced Z5 as another mid-range smartphone embracing the thin-bezel design rather than the promised truly bezel-less smartphone.
It features a 6.2-inch display with a notch and a bottom chin which is in total contrast to what the company VP Chang Cheng was teasing leading up to today’s launch event. The display features a resolution of 2240×1080 pixels, which translates to a taller aspect ratio of 18.7:9. While renders predicted it will get rid of bezels, the actual smartphone includes both a notch as well as a bottom chin. The smartphone totally defies the notion of a true bezel-less smartphone design and proves that it is not easy to make one.
Like most other smartphones in the market, the Lenovo Z5 also features a metallic frame with glass back. It has a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass at the front as well as rear and is being offered in black, blue, and aurora color options. The aurora color option, in particular, is interesting since it changes the hue according to light falling on it and can change the tone from blue to purple.
While Lenovo was promising flagship specifications, the Z5 comes with a mid-range Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with 6GB RAM and option to choose between 64GB and 128GB storage. On the back, it sports a dual rear camera setup combining a 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel image sensors with f/2.0 aperture and support for 4K videos. At the front, it offers an 8-megapixel selfie camera with AI integration for portrait mode and beautification effects.
Lenovo Z5 packs a 3,300mAh battery and comes bundled with an 18W fast charger. The company promised 45 days of standby and up to 30 minutes of talktime with zero percent charge. Lenovo Z5 has turned out to be exact opposite to what the company teased on Weibo, China’s micro-blogging platform and makes one wonder if the company lied to create all that hype.
