LG G7, the next flagship smartphone from the Korean company, is not expected to arrive until May. According to Korea’s ETNews, the G7 will come with an improved AI camera and a notch similar to that of iPhone X and cost more than its predecessor.

LG was rumored to showcase its flagship G7 at MWC last month but the Korean company dropped the launch at last moment. According to reports, LG’s mobile division chief found the prototype model did not offer any major improvements and has asked the engineering team to start from scratch. There are also reports suggesting that the company is planning to launch the G7 with a new name.

LG has been completely overshadowed by its home rival Samsung and it has conceded to the likes of Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and other brands like HMD Global and OnePlus. The new phone is seen by analysts as one last attempt to save itself from becoming irrelevant in the highly competitive smartphone market.

ETNews says that the LG G7 could be priced 1,00,000 Korean Won more than that its predecessor. That price translates to a jump of Rs 6,000, which could the price of G7 to around Rs 56,000 or around $800. The report adds that G7 will feature dual 16-megapixel camera with AI integration similar to the V30 ThinQ edition.

The smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC like every other premium flagship in the market. It will sport an OLED display with a notch similar to that of iPhone X. Israeli publication Ynet spotted LG G7 codenamed Neo at Mobile World Congress last month that featured a notch similar to iPhone. Other features reported include an 8-megapixel front camera, Quad-DAC audio system and 3,000mAh battery.

The report also mentions that the G7 might be accompanied by LG G7 Plus with more storage than the standard model. A late release could mean that the launch of V40 will also be pushed back further towards the end of the year. LG has struggled to adopt to the changing scenario in the smartphone business where Chinese OEMs have started more competitive devices at cheaper price. It also has also lost cue for a major differentiator like its rival Samsung and the addition of iPhone X style notch will definitely not help the case.
