LG has just shown off the redesigned logo for its new Optimus line of smartphones, which are going to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona, Spain. The new logo features a metallic accent with a slimmer profile. LG hopes that this redesign of the Optimus branding will increase the prestige of the brand in the public domain, in turn helping its smartphone sales. While we are not too sure about this tactic, as quality products normally sell themselves, it’s better than nothing.

LG is expected to launch a slew of Optimus devices including a handset which will boast of a quad-core processor, so it will be interesting to see how this works out. Previously LG became the first company to release a dual core handset, with its Optimus 2X, though the product did not see a lot of success in the international market due to heavy competition from HTC, Samsung, Motorola and Apple.
