LG to launch Android phone running on Intel’s Medfield chip at CES: Report

LG could be the first hardware vendor partner for Intel’s Medfield chipset and possibly announce the first Android phone running on it at CES next month, according to The Korea Times. This would be a partnership of also-rans, considering neither of the two has been able to make their presence felt in the smartphone space. LG’s phone business has incurred losses in the last few quarters while Intel has been unable to launch anything significant in this space. Its last venture with Nokia to launch a smartphone OS, MeeGo, was killed by Nokia as it decided to go with Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform instead. In all probability, Intel would be subsidizing this project for LG, which would mean we are more likely to see an Intel reference design than something driven by LG. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what they come up with at CES.
