Major reorganization at Microsoft could see new role for Skype CEO Tony Bates, others
Last week we reported about Microsoft’s alleged plans to undergo a major restructuring to become a more ‘devices and services company’ under its current CEO Steve Ballmer. As a part of this change, Ballmer is said to be considering putting head of Skype Communications Tony Bates in charge of acquisitions and relationships with software developers, Bloomberg reports.
The report further mentions that in addition to Bates, Ballmer may also put Windows chief Julie Larson-Green in charge of the hardware engineering for Microsoft. The details are still sketchy as the plans have been discussed between Ballmer and some top officials at Microsoft and will only be officially revealed sometime next week.
As we reported before, in its quest to become a more devices and services company, the restructuring will see a lot of changes with more focus on senior executives like Satya Nadella, who could be shifted from the Servers and Tools department to a cloud computing and products for corporate. Head of online group Qi Lu too is expected to head an engineering team, while Xbox chief Don Mattrick, who too was in line for a shift, decided to jump ship and join Zynga as their new CEO.
