Since Satya Nadella took over as Microsoft CEO in 2014, the company has been changing the way it sees itself in the mobile business. Nadella wrote off the Nokia deal, and expanded company’s own software to rival platforms like Android and iOS.

While the process started with the release of apps like Microsoft Outlook and Office apps, the company recently brought its Edge web browser to Android and iOS, and it may now be the turn of iPad. Sean Lyndersay, an Edge program manager tweeted, that the browser’s iPad version is in internal testing, and will be released as part of Apple’s TestFlight program early next month.

Lyndersay also noted that the app will take a little longer to be fully functional, and wider rollout will come after testing and getting user feedback about the browser. Microsoft made Edge browser available in beta for Android and iOS in October last year. The final version was released on both the platforms last month.

It is still possible to access the Edge browser on an iPad by running the iPhone version from the App Store. However, the app won’t be able to offer the full iPad experience and when users tap on the 2x button, the app will appear pixelated and won’t support auto-rotation.

Microsoft Edge is a modern browser that is built to be lightweight compared to Internet Explorer with a new layout engine built around web standards. It includes features and integration like Cortana, annotation tools, and reading mode. The browser recently gained support for extensions and dark theme.

The official app for iOS and Android also includes “Roaming Passwords” allowing users to save a new password on their phone and use the same on their PC. The browser is meant to offer improved battery life over Chrome, and will be competing with Safari when it launches on iPad.
