Microsoft added two new variants of its Surface laptop and Surface Book 2. The Windows 10-powered devices are now available with reduced specs and priced lesser than the original models. The Surface laptop now has a base model which is equipped with an Intel Core m3 processor with Intel HD Graphics 615 with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This model carries a price tag of $799 (approximately Rs 51,300).
The Surface Book 2, on the other hand, is now priced at $1,199 (approximately Rs 77,000) for the 13.5-inch model with Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage.
In comparison, the Surface laptop base model carried a price of $999 (approximately Rs 64,000) and was equipped with Intel Core i5 processor. The base model of Surface Book 2 earlier cost $1,499 (approximately Rs 96,200) and included 256GB of internal storage.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Windows 10 recently overtook Windows 7 according to analytics firm Statcounter. According to the firm, Windows 10 global market share now stands at 42.78 percent compared to 41.86 percent for Windows 7. The newer Windows version was launched in July 2015 and in the span of less than three years has taken over the much older Windows 7.
Windows 8.1 stands at 8.72 percent, followed by Windows XP at 3.36 percent, Windows 8 at 2.44 percent, and Windows Vista at a meager 0.74 percent.
Even as the global popularity of Windows 10 is evident, back home in India, users still prefer the Windows 7. As per the statistics, with 59.38 percent market share, Windows 7 still leads in India while Windows 10 stands at a mere 17.19 percent share. The desktop Windows version market share in India as of January 2018 for Windows 7 is 54.46 percent, followed by Windows 10 at 28.22 percent, Windows 8.1 at 10.54 percent, Windows XP at 3.6 percent, Windows 8 at 2.95 percent, and lastly Windows Vista at 0.18 percent.
