Microsoft has just teased dark mode for its online e-mail service, Outlook.com. According to a recent report by The Verge, the company is working on introducing this new feature “soon”. One thing to note here is that this is not the first time that the company has introduced a dark mode for Outlook.com as the company temporarily offered the same at Halloween last year. The report points out that Microsoft has been working on this new mode “for the past few months.” The company pointed out that it has redesigned the code and the colors “multiple times” to ensure that it is up to expectations.
According to the report, one of the members from the Outlook.com team added, “One reason for the delay is our insistence that we deliver the best Dark Mode of any leading email client (you’ll understand when you see it, I guarantee)” while replying to the feature request asking for a dark mode. He goes on to add, “The sneak preview you saw last year at Halloween was a prototype that required a lot more work to be ready for prime time.” The response notes that the development of the mode has entered “the final stretch.”

The company seems to be taking its sweet time to ensure that the feature matches a standard as the dark mode is one of the most requested features for Outlook.com. According to Outlook Feedback website, the request for dark mode is currently sixth in the ‘Top” feedback category of all time for the product with more than 1000 people voting that Microsoft needs to introduce it on Outlook.com.
Analyzing the top five feedbacks reported for the product, Dark mode is the only feature that users have asked the Outlook.com team to add while the top five feedbacks are more like bug requests in the existing design. This comes right after it was reported that Microsoft is planning to launch a $400 Surface tablet on the market.
